Grad Group
The Grad Group includes all Gengras seniors and is one of our most valued Transition Services. The group takes two trips every month, guided by school social workers and vocational transition teachers. The destinations introduce students to transportation options, teach them appropriate community behaviors, and gives them useful tips and tools to navigate their way through towns and services.
Participating in Grad Group also gives the students an opportunity to meet with their fellow students and discuss feelings and emotions involved with leaving their school and transitioning to post graduate placements. Communication skills for daily living activities are reinforced while being actively involved in the community.
At the beginning of a student’s final year, a comprehensive calendar with scheduled activities is sent home with the students. The Grad Group’s final culminating activity, the Grad Dinner, is an opportunity for students, families, and Gengras Center to staff celebrate together.
