Speech & Language

Our extensive speech and language program addresses each student’s communication needs on an individualized basis. We foster independence by working towards the highest level of independence possible. For some students, this requires the use of technology, picture symbols, Social Stories, oral-motor exercises, and various other techniques. Increasing each child’s expressive and receptive language is a common goal throughout the school environment as it enhances the students’ confidence, self-esteem, and self-advocacy.

Students need a variety of supports from the speech and language department including innovative technology and streamlined communication skills.

Our goal is to help your child be a better communicator! In speech, we practice listening skills and use our voices and communication systems to share our thoughts and ideas. As students get older, our focus changes from building a communication foundation to using language to participate in work and leisure activities in adulthood. We use language to ask and answer questions, make comments, interact with adults and peers, and more! We look forward to getting to know your child and helping them realize that communication can be fun and powerful! We believe that all of our students have the potential to be a more effective communicator, and we are excited to help your child achieve that!

“Everyone deserves a voice”

"You can feel it when you enter the building. That special energy- it makes people smile."

– Dr. Arlette Cassidy, School Psychologist
