We believe that communication is a fundamental human right, and our goal is to help every student develop the skills they need to express themselves clearly, meaningfully, and independently.
Our SLPs work closely with each student and classroom to build a strong foundation in language development—starting with core vocabulary, functional communication, and expressive/receptive language skills. From these building blocks, we guide students in transferring their communication skills beyond the classroom and into the real world. Students practice interacting with peers during social activities, engaging with coworkers at vocational training sites, or navigating community environments. It is our goal to ensure our students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed during their education and beyond.
To support diverse communication needs, we utilize a range of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools and software, including:
- Low-tech supports (i.e., picture symbols, visual aids, communication boards, etc.)
- Mid-tech supports (i.e., switches, switch adapted cause/effect items, etc.)
- High-tech software like LAMP Words for Life (LAMP-WFL), Proloquo2Go, TouchChat and Tobii Dynavox systems, etc.)
These technologies help our students find personalized ways to communicate effectively. Our SLPs implement these tools in a way that integrates seamlessly with each student’s daily routines, both on and off campus. Our mission is to foster communication that is functional, empowering, and lifelong. By emphasizing real-world application and individualized support, we help our students become confident communicators who can advocate for themselves, build relationships, and participate actively in their communities.
