Behavioral Services
The behavioral department at the Gengras Center is dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs through the science of behavior. Our team includes four Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), each with specialized experience in special education settings. We are committed to fostering positive behavior change, increasing independence, and enhancing the quality of life for every student we serve.
Working in close collaboration with families, classroom teams, and other service providers, the behavioral department plays a key role in designing and implementing individualized behavioral supports that are data-driven, evidence-based, and person-centered via the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). Our goal is to ensure every student can learn and grow in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
Our behavior analytic services are integrated into students’ daily routines and educational programs, and include the following supports:
Classroom Supports
Each classroom at the Gengras Center receives ongoing consultation and training from adedicated BCBA. BCBAs collaborate closely with teachers, related service providers, and administrative staff to develop and implement behavior support strategies tailored to the unique needs of each student. Through regular observations, data review, and team meetings, BCBAs provide hands-on coaching, model best practices, and offer real-time feedback to classroom staff. This approach promotes skill development, reduces behavioral challenges, and supports a positive, structured learning environment.
Individualized Student Supports
For students exhibiting persistent or intensive behaviors that interfere with learning, BCBAs may conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to better understand the function of behavior and develop targeted interventions. When appropriate, individualized behavior support plans are created, emphasizing proactive strategies, skill-building, and environmental supports.
Staff Supports
BCBAs also support professional development across the school through both scheduled trainings and targeted classroom-based coaching. These efforts help staff build confidence and consistency in behavior support practices, enhancing the educational experience for all students.
Collaboration with Families and Outside Providers
With the support and consent of families, BCBAs coordinate with in-home therapists, medical professionals, and other outside service providers to ensure consistent implementation of behavioral strategies across settings. This collaborative, team-based approach ensures that support plans are individualized, cohesive, and responsive to each student’s needs.
BCBA Supervision
At the Gengras Center, we are committed to fostering the growth of future behavior analysts. We proudly offers supervision for graduate students employed in good standing at the Gengras Center who are working toward certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®). Supervision is provided by experienced, credentialed BCBAs in alignment with the BACB requirements and trainees receive:
- Individualized and group supervision sessions that focus on both skill development and ethical practice
- Hands-on experience in assessment, behavior intervention planning, data analysis, and collaboration across disciplines
- Opportunities to work directly with students in a supportive, structured learning environment
- Guidance in navigating the BACB Test Content Outline in preparation for the BCBA certification examination
- Mentorship from seasoned professionals who are passionate about shaping the next generation of behavior analysts
