An introduction to work for students who are 14 years of age, as well as a program for older students who for medical, behavioral, and/or physical reasons need to be close to the Gengras Center. Students gain supervised work experience by working in the Center’s maintenance, recycle, clerical programs, and serving lunch. Students work closely with Vocational Staff and receive a stipend provided by the Gengras Center. Students work 1.5 hours per week.
In the Gengras Center building, job placements include: the kitchen duties, contributing to our recycling efforts, assist maintenance crews by cleaning windows and vacuuming, support office personnel with filing and copying duties, and even be an officer of the Gengras Bank by counting and distributing student stipends as well as a variety of other placements based on need and interests. New job placements are continually being developed.
Work Simulation Goals:
- To develop a foundation of work habits and behaviors that will enable students to experience success in future vocational programs and in salaried employment.
- To develop basic career awareness.
- To collaborate with classrooms to provide consistent support of implementation of iep goals and objectives.
