Students who are 15 years old and over are placed at various work sites on the University of Saint Joseph campus and/or The Gengras Center if needed for medical, behavioral, and/or physical reasons. Students work in small teams supervised by Gengras Center staff. Students receive a stipend provided by the Gengras Center. Students work three hours per week.
The University of Saint Joseph affords our students many interesting and worthwhile placements for job responsibilities not unlike what they might encounter in the outside world. Working in small teams supervised by Gengras Center staff, our young student employees have a marvelous opportunity to get real-life, on-the-job experiences without leaving campus.
Work Adjustment Goals:
- To provide a closely supervised work situation in a variety of possible interest areas.
- To experience realistic job specifications and expectations.
- To develop general work habits and behaviors, such as personal appearance, work attitude, attendance/punctuality, following and understanding directions and relating with supervisors and co-workers.
- To develop a resume of situational/observational assessments on actual work sites
