For each student, a person-centered, systematic approach to assessing a student’s occupational interests, abilities, and potential is completed. A combination of vocational interest inventories, and situational assessments, as well as record reviews and consultation are used to determine students’ vocational strengths and limitations.
The assessment encourages individual choice and personal preferences to help plan for the future. Assessment results are reviewed by the child study team and or the planning and placement team process, with parent, teacher, and support staff input. This interdisciplinary team approach is the basis for planning and monitoring students’ vocational training progress.
Assessment Goals:
- To provide students with a spectrum of career choices to explore.
- To identify students’ occupational awareness.
- To identify students’ interests and personal career preferences.
- To identify vocational skill levels.
- To identify aptitudes, potential, strengths, and challenges for each appropriate vocational setting.
Vocational Assessments are a part of the three year reevaluation, which may include:
- Student interview
- Skills and interests checklists
- Reading-Free Vocational Interest Inventory Revised-III
- Assessment of motivators
Students will receive situational assessments on actual work sites and updated assessments. A vocational worker summary will be updated each semester.
Situational assessments are conducted in an ongoing manner, throughout student’s vocational placements.
Student and/or guardian will receive feedback regarding the ongoing assessment through the PPT process or parent meetings.
