Students are placed at independent work sites in the community and/or on the University of Saint Joseph campus based on their expressed vocational interests. The purpose of this is to determine further vocational training in a particular occupation or trade. Students spend two-three work days per week at worksites, and are supervised by community mentors. Gengras Center staff act as a liaison between students and the “employer.” A stipend is provided by the Gengras Center.
This is a semi-independent program for students in order to further assess their interests and abilities through actual work experiences. Situational Assessment Program Goals:
- Provide career exploration in actual work settings.
- Develop decision-making skills based on vocational experience.
- Determine a vocational goal in order to pursue specific training.
- Develop ability to work independently with community mentors and co-workers.
- Develop job-seeking skills.
- Continue a work summary of work sites, etc.
