The focus of this program is on appropriate work behaviors and job readiness skills in a real work environment rather than specific job training. Students also receive specific instruction related to career exploration; work related social skills, safety training as well as other important work traits. In addition, students are exposed to community experiences including shopping, preparing their own lunch, and dining out.
Students participating in Community Training programs travel by Gengras Center vans to work sites in the West Hartford and Hartford area. There, they spend the full day working alongside local business people, receiving on the job training in various career areas. In addition, workers also participate in bank simulation activities. Students work one to two days per week.
