The goal of our Vocational Program is to build positive work behaviors and provide expert training for every student. Students start working with the Vocational Services Department beginning at age 14 years.
The specific goals include:
The program is staffed by two Special Education teachers and five job coaches and is committed to:
- Providing a comprehensive process to assess a student’s vocational interests, abilities, and potential.
- Supervising vocational situational assessment and training.
- Facilitating the transition from school to community placement.
- Developing a strong connection with adult agencies so they gain an awareness of the abilities and needs of our students.
- Offering a continuum of vocational services that emphasizes community-based experiences and exposure to the “real world of work,” along with preparation for adult service agencies.
The Vocational Services Department will also provide a comprehensive vocational evaluation at the three-year reevaluation for students over 15. This evaluation uses vocational interest inventories, situational assessments, record reviews, and consultations to pinpoint a student’s strengths and needs.
