About Us
The Gengras Center, founded in 1965 on the campus of University of Saint Joseph, provides a unique program for elementary, middle, high school and transition aged students with significant intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism and related behavioral challenges. Our state-approved, private special education school offers highly structured, functional, self-contained programs for over 130 students. Our staff-to-student ratio is higher than average, and the collaboration between families, home school districts, and community-based service providers is incomparable.
Our staff includes special education instructors, teaching assistants, vocational teachers, job coaches, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, a psychologist, art, music, physical education teachers, a full time registered nurse, five licensed practical nurses, a registered dietitian and BCBAs.
Students from more than 50 Connecticut and southern Massachusetts towns attend our school. We also provide an advanced learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students of University of Saint Joseph.
